On November 15, 1824, in Onil, Spain, an altar boy in the church, stole the monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament. News of the sacrilegious theft spread quickly throughout the region. When the thief tried to sell the stolen objects in a nearby town, he aroused suspicion and was arrested. He would not reveal where he had hidden the monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament. The authorities looked for days all over the countryside. Several days later, a woman from the nearby town of Tibi found the stolen monstrance, with the consecrated Host inside, in a grassy field. It was returned to Onil, where she was received with great rejoicing. Exactly 119 years later, on November 28, 1943, Fr. Guillermo Hijarrubia, delegate of the Archbishop of Valencia, confirmed the authenticity of the miracle, noting the perfect preservation of the Host. To this day the consecrated Host has remained intact in spite of the nearly 200 years which have elapsed. Jesus is with us always in the Blessed Sacrament. May we come to love Him, worship Him, and adore Him. May we spend time with Him in Adoration and receive Him reverently at Mass.
