In 1342 a violent thunderstorm suddenly broke out in the village of Stiphout, Netherlands. A lightning bolt struck the parish church, setting it on fire. The flames quickly spread everywhere and reached the interior of the church. Not knowing what to do, the elderly pastor, immediately ran to warn the neighbors. A group of faithful decided to try to rescue the Blessed Sacrament. It was impossible to enter the church, and the only solution left was for someone to be lowered down through the window. Jan Balloys volunteered. He was lowered into the church near the altar. With great amazement, he saw that the flames, which had already destroyed the whole church, had held back from the area around the tabernacle. He grabbed the ciborium containing the consecrated Hosts and carried Them to safety. The church was later rebuilt, and the Hosts remained intact until 1557. They were lost due to historical vicissitudes and religious wars. Jesus in the Eucharist prepares our hearts for every mission in life. It is He who knows all we need. Trust in Our Lord, and come every week to the Holy Mass and Adoration to grow in faith and to give thanks
