In the town of Gerona, Spain, in 129, a priest who was celebrating Mass doubted the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. But when the time for Communion arrived, he could not swallow the Host, which had changed into Flesh in his mouth. A nun at the Monastery of St. Daniel who was watching from the choir loft saw the priest remove something from his mouth and wrap it in the corporal, placing it on the corner of the altar. After Mass, the nun immediately went to the altar to see what the priest had hidden in the white cloth, and with great amazement discovered that it contained a small piece of Flesh, dripping with Blood. Questioned, the priest confessed to doubting the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Just as he had put the Sacred Host into his mouth, It’s size had increased to such a volume and consistency that he was not able to swallow the Sacred Species. This is why he had wrapped the Eucharist in one of the corporals and left the Sacrament on the altar. The relic was placed in a reliquary, but was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War of 1936. May the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ remove all doubts of His Real Presence in the Eucharist. May you receive and adore Him with great reverence. Come, worship and adore Him at Mass and Adoration.
