Fiecht, Austria. The little village of St. Georgenberg-Fiecht in the Inn Valley is very well-known, especially because of a Eucharistic miracle which took place there in 1310. During Mass, a priest was seized with doubts regarding the Real Presence of Jesus in the consecrated Elements. Right after the Consecration, the wine changed into Blood and began to boil and overflow out of the chalice. The news spread of this miracle and pilgrims came to adore the Precious Blood. An investigation was ordered in 1472 and as a result of the investigation, a miracle was declared, and all were encouraged to adore the Precious Blood. In 1480, after 170 years, the Precious Blood was "still fresh as though flowing from a wound." A second documentary tablet recounts how the Relic of the Precious Blood helped preserve the Catholic faith during the Protestant schism: "In 1593, when Luther's teachings were spreading everywhere in Tyrol, the monks of St. Georgenberg were asked to preach the faith everywhere. Abbot Michael Geisser was preaching with great success before a large crowd in the parish church of Schwaz and did not hesitate to recall the Holy Miracle of the Blood as proof of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. He disputed in such a convincing way that his adversaries were obliged to leave the scene. This total victory over false teaching was regarded by believers as a special grace the Lord was granting His faithful, the adorers of the Precious Blood." The Precious Blood is preserved intact to this day in a reliquary at the Monastery of St. Georgenberg. May our hearts and minds be open to the Presence of Jesus before us. May we come to worship Him reverently and never doubt that He is truly with us in the Eucharist.
