Flood Recovery Update As of June 12th, the joint Catholic Charities and Catholic Diocese of Lexington flood recovery efforts total nearly $3,500,000 in assistance to flood survivors in Eastern KY. In partnership with local community organizations and parishes, the referral program has provided 102 new HVAC systems, rebuilding materials/appliances for 157 families, and furniture for 191 homes through the House in a Box program.
The Catholic Diocese of Lexington is also partnering with Housing Development Alliance and HOMES Inc. to sponsor four new homes for flood survivors. The houses will be located in Breathitt, Perry, Knott, and Letcher Counties and will offer safe, energy efficient, and sustainable dwellings. Beyond providing shelter, these homes reflect our commitment to continue to walk with our Eastern Kentucky families affected by the historic floods of 2022.
On July 29, Bishop John will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. in Jenkins to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the flood. Please consider coordinating a group from your parish to attend. If you have any questions, contact Josh van Cleef at [email protected].
