In Belgium, at Bois-d'Haine, Anne-Louise Lateau lived for twelve years without eating, drinking, or sleeping, starting on March 26, 1871. She lived entirely on the Most Holy Eucharist. On January 11, 1868, she received the stigmata on her feet, hands, head, chest, and right shoulder. She lived thus until the end of her life. On April 23, 1873, Pope Leo XIII made the following declaration regarding AnneLouise's case, "The Bois-d'Haine event is an extraordinary one. You can affirm on my behalf that medical science will never be able to explain such a fact." Anne-Louise died on August 25, 1883, at age 33. In 1991, the cause for her beatification was officially opened. As AnneLouise was a living witness to Christ's Passion, may our lives also reflect Christ. As she was sustained solely by the Eucharist, may we long deeply to be nourished by the Eucharist at Mass. Let us come to Adoration to be near our Eucharistic Lord. May our hearts long for Him alone.
