St. Lucy Filippini was born of January 13, 1672 in Corneto-Tarquinia, a city outside Rome that existed centuries before Rome. It was her meeting with Cardinal Mark Barbarigo, that inspired her. He opened schools of which St. Lucy headed to promote the dignity of womanhood and help influence a health family life. Domestic arts and Christian doctrine were taught. One day, St. Lucy Filippini was making her way to Pitigliano, near Grosseto, to inspect a school for craftsmen which she had founded. First, however, she stopped at the church of the Franciscan Fathers to attend Mass. So great was Lucy's desire to receive Jesus in the Eucharist that the Lord wished to reward her with a miracle. When the priest was breaking the large Host in half to place a small Fragment in the chalice, this Fragment flew into the air, radiating light, and came to rest on the tongue of the future saint. Today, the shrine where the miracle took place is under the care of the Filippini Sisters. May our desire and love of the Eucharist be so great that nothing comes in the way of Mass. May we come to the Sacrament of Reconciliation frequently, so we receive Our Lord worthily with an open heart and a clean soul. Come to Adoration to give thanks, gratitude, and love to Our Lord for our many blessings. Come to love Him.
