Bring your basket on Easter weekend for a blessing. The blessing of baskets is a Catholic tradition dating back to the 12th century. Originating in Poland, it has since been adopted by people of many ethnic backgrounds. Our bulletin insert (see image below) illustrates what a traditional Polish Easter basket contains, but baskets filled with jelly beans and chocolate bunnies are welcome too.
Attending the Easter Vigil? Bring your empty basket or put items in it that you plan to use for Easter dinner. As Catholics we know that when we attend Mass on Sunday that it is the same Mass being said in churches around the world. Our homes are the Domestic Church and in homes around the world Easter is being celebrated. This is a small simple way to display our faith, knowing that like Christmas, this is not a secular holiday. What a wonder it is to be a part of the universal Church!
Baskets can be brought to church to be blessed on Easter weekend
at the 8:30 p.m., 7:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 5:00 p.m. Masses.
